Barnes and Montgomery Win on the Mississippi The Illinois Bass Federation, on August 19th, held the fifth tournament of six for the IBF regular tournament trail season. This tournament was held on the Mississippi river, Pool 19 and launched from the Palisades ramp. Eighty-six anglers competed in this tournament with many hoping to secure an invitation to the year end Illinois Bass Federation Classic Sponsored in part by Ranger Boats. River levels were fluctuating from rain storms and the bite went from outstanding a week previous to extremely tough the day of the tournament. The Mississippi river was unusually tough this weekend and all but one angler struggled to find five keeper fish. Mike Barnes Of Falcon Bass Club , a regular on the trail and always a threat to win the tournament, brought the only limit to the scales. Mike weighed in 10.64 lbs to win the tournament, Pro-Div, and Win the Ranger Cup Check. Gary Montgomery of the Champaign Co. Bassmasters won the Am-Div by weighing in 3 fish at 6.89lbs.
